Smoothies are a great way to pack lots fruit and vegetables into your diet with very little fuss. They are quick to make, delicious and so easy to take with you when you're out and about, as well as being unbelievably versatile so they can suit everybody's tastes. I've been trying out a few different recipes recently and the 3 below have come out as my favourites. Like with all smoothies, they are very adaptable and can easily be changed depending on what you like and what is available to you.
I've found that these 3 recipes are so good as they are all really simple. Lots of smoothies recipes cram in about 15 different fruit and veg all in one go, now this is no bad thing, but sometimes it's easier to just stick to a few core ingredients so you can really taste everything that's inside.
The 'green' that I have used in all 3 of my smoothies is spinach as this is what we eat most and I know that it will normally be found in our fridge! It can be swapped out for a different dark leafy green, such as kale or whatever else you fancy.
I love spinach and other greens but the beauty of these smoothies is that people that aren't too keen on the green won't even know they're in there! I mean there is the very green colour of the smoothies that may give the game away, but the taste most definitely won't!
With the addition of some natural supplements from Organic Burst, these are the perfect way to really boost your nutrient intake and keep yourself in the best possible health. I've added Maca to all the smoothies as it's amazing for giving you an energy boost, so it is the perfect thing for the mornings! It can also work to stabilise hormones to help with anxiety, mood swings and even PMS. The flavour is tricky to describe but Maca has kind of a malty-caramel feel to it so can be added to pretty much any flavour combination. You can probably notice it most in the banana based smoothie listed below as this tastes like the most indulgent of the 3. Baobab is similar to Maca as it is known to revitalise and invigorate, so again it is amazing for energy levels. Baobab is also great for boosting your immune and digestive systems, it has a slightly fruitier taste so goes so well my mango smoothie and I also enjoy adding 1 tsp to any fruit juice in the mornings. Acai has been know to reduce the effects of ageing, nourish the skin and protect cells from damage - the natural choice was for it to be matched with my blueberry smoothie! These little purple buddies are antioxidant havens and have even worked to cover up some of that green colour! Organic Burst are an amazing choice for natural supplements as they are all 100% raw and they don't add any extra nastys, fillers or additives to any of their products. They are all vegan friendly and they have a range of other products to suit your dietary needs. Find them here.
Chia seeds are also an amazing way to add that little bit extra goodness into your smoothie. Whether you're having it for breakfast, lunch or just as a snack; the added potassium, iron and protein will work wonders and you won't even know it's there!
The Smoothies
Each set of ingredients will make roughly 2.5 cups worth, which is just over 1/2 litre. You can add more or less liquid to make more/less or to have them thicker/thinner to suit you!
1 frozen banana
1 cup fresh spinach
1 cup almond milk
1 tbs Organic Burst maca powder
1 tsp chia seeds
1 frozen mango
1 cup fresh spinach
1 cup coconut water
1 tsp Organic Burst maca powder
1 tsp Organic Burst baobab powder
1 tsp chia seeds
1 cup frozen blueberries
1 cup fresh spinach
1 cup coconut water
1 tsp Organic Burst acai powder (or 1 opened capsule)
1 tsp Organic Burst maca powder
1 tsp Organic Burst baobab powder
1 tsp chia seeds
To Make:
- Simply combine all the ingredients together in a blender for a few minutes until it's well mixed and even.
- The frozen fruit will keep it nice and cold and give your smoothie the delicious 'slushy' texture.
- I like to serve mine in a cold glass with a few ice cubes and some extra chia seeds or goji berries sprinkled on top.
