Choco-Banana Milkshake

Whoever first decided to bung a banana in the freezer is a pretty clever guy. It makes making ice cream, smoothies and shakes so quick and simple, as well as eliminating the need for any dairy products to be added. If you've got any bananas getting over ripe and forgotten in the fruit bowl, chop 'em up, pop 'em in a zip lock bag and forget about them in the freezer until you want to use them.

This shake can be flavoured in so many different ways, starting with the banana/honey/milk/yog and adding whatever ya fancy. Adding berries to make it fruity would make a delicious smoothie, or leaving out the cocoa and adding lots of pb would make for a kinda dreamy shake too.

If you wanna go real healthy, frozen bananas are also a good base for green smoothies - adding in spinach/kale/celery/apples etc and a nice squeeze of lime to kick start the day.

My choco-banana smoothie feels like an indulgence but really is quite healthy, with a good hit of protein coming from the almond butter/milk.

Ingredients:
2 frozen bananas
1 tbsp almond butter
1 tbsp honey (optional, to sweeten)
2 tbsp cocoa powder
1/2 cup almond milk
1/2 cup vanilla soy yogurt
serves 2, generously

To Make:
  • Blitz all ingredients together in a blender.
(yeah, it's that easy)
  • Drink straight away or store in the fridge for up to one day.
  • Serve over ice.
